  • Launched: September 2011 Type: Compact system camera Sensor: 13.2 x 8.8mm CMOS Resolution: 10.1MP Kit lens: 3x 10-30mm f3.5-5.6 Movies: Full HD
Summary: The Nikon 1 is Nikon’s first compact system camera and uses a brand new CX-format sensor roughly half way in size between a compact camera’s and an SLR’s. Nikon has also introduced a range of CX-format lenses, including a kit zoom, telephoto, superzoom and fixed focal length prime lens.

Key features
• The new CX-format sensor is mid-way in size between a compact camera’s sensor and a digital SLR’s. It measures 13.2 x 8mm and has a focal factor of 2.7.

• Nikon has launched four CX format lenses to go with the Nikon 1 cameras. They include:  • a 10-30mm (27-81mm equivalent) f3.5-5.6 kit zoom, • a 30-100mm (81-297mm equivalent) f3.8-5.6 telephoto zoom, • a 10mm (27mm equivalent) f2.8 pancake lens • a 10-100mm (27-270mm equivalent) f4.5-5.6 superzoom.

• An optional FT1 mount adaptor lets you attach any Nikkor SLR lens.

• Super high-speed autofocus based around both contrast detection and phase-detection systems, switching automatically between them according to the subject and conditions.

• The Expeed 3 image processing system includes two “engines” which can process images at 600 megapixels per second for “unparalleled” levels of speed and performance and high-quality noise reduction.

• Continuous shooting speeds between 10fps and 60fps and at full resolution.

• Advanced movie recording allows you to shoot a still image without interruption while filming, offers super-slow motion movies and fast phase-detection autofocus.

• The Motion Snapshot mode captures a still image and a one-second slow-motion movie at the same time, to produce “a photo that moves”.

• The Smart Photo Selector shoots 20 high-resolution images and then automatically selects the best five, based on facial expression, composition and focus.
